In its lower limit is the Cabo de Palos with its distinct live lighthouse. In the south there are five islands or islets of volcanic origin, three are called major islands:

 island Perdiguera, Mayor Island and Baron and Sujeto Island and two smaller islands, or Round Island and Isle of Subject Rondella

That bathes the shores of the Mar Menor are the municipalities of San Javier (population of Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga), San Pedro del Pinatar (Lo Pagan populations and Los Cuarteros), Los Alcazares and Cartagena (population LosUrrutias, Los Nietos and La Manga).
